Dried Apples
Well I dried some apples this year for decorations. I made a few small wreaths for decorating Gifts, and I also made some into ornaments for the girls at work.
First you take some apples and slice them from side to side (NOT TOP TO BOTTOM) You need to do them from side to side so that when you get to the center you see a star in the middle. |
Then you want to mix 1 pint lemon juice and 2 or 3 Tablespoons of salt and soak the slices of apple in it for about 3 to 5 minutes. |
Then you take them out and lay them on a cookie sheet covered with cheese cloth. (I layered them on top of each other and this makes the peel bleed onto the one underneath it.) Which makes for a nice extra bit of color. But it takes a lot longer to dry them this way. You can just lay them down and not let them touch each other too. Put them in the oven at 200 degrees for any where ffrom 4 to 12 hours. |
The bottom rack shown here has apples that have been dring for about 8 hours and I took them off and put the on a cooling rack and put the back in the oven to dry the bottom better. |
Here is the bowl of finished dried apples ready for what ever you like to do with them. |
Here are a couple of wreaths I glued together. They still need some cinamon sticks and cloves and ribbons but use your imagination.
