My Mother was adopted when she was young By Mr and Mrs.Edwin And Dorthy Weber Of Jeffersonville New York .My Grandparents owned a realty agency their. A town with cobble stone streets A beautiful valley where deep snows covered it with white lace and horse and buggy helped local people get to their homes, or bring food to those that were in need.. It was an historical town with many covered bridges,A castle I remember that later was made into a childrens home., exquisit beauty within the walls of these old homes...In her Life, she made her choice to perfect her abilities by furthering her education up until She enlisted in the Army., she was a straight A student all through school..and graduated from The University of New York...She then decided to Join the Army, serving 4 years in the Korean War...During her time of service, she continued to educate her future where she graduated with honors as Aviation Mechanic, during her studies she study Nursing and Apolstery, During the war she worked with Military Doctors and the Red Cross, While drastically assisting with the many injured.. My mother received the Nursing Honor Award from the Red Cross for her dedication and conviction to the wounded but also her dedication to maintaining the spirit of the exhausted and emotional nurses... My Mother wrote many memoires through the years about her nursing memories of the war, and what she lived to remember...I never was aloud to read them, But as my mothers daughter I am still trying to acquire those pages. My mother never spoke of the war.. quote"It was a memory I can not share with you, and one I will always keep private".
After the Service my mother had married and had 2 children. When I was born we resided in Oregon. There is alot about my mothers life right after the military and before I was born that I don't know much about.... Before I was born My mother resided in a small Indian named town 45 miles North of Portland Oregon, where she work for a family that raised milking cows, she was head milker and worked her fingers raw also cleaning stalls.. She cared for my sister and brother where they lived in a one room cabin. Later when things were more of a strain for money my mother left the farm and was employed at Montgomery Wards as Head Accountant...During her 15/20 years she also designed the Memorial Parade Float wearing 15,000 pink and white roses. I was born in 1953 and in 1955 my mother and father divorced. She continued to Work until she retired in 1966 from Montgomery Wards Store in Portland Oregon.
My mother attended the local Baptist Church where she became the Top Organist, and Bible School Teacher..My Grand parents in deepest love for my mother, bought our house in a small vacinity of town, which my mother paid back. We raised Chickens in our small back yard...Around in 1965 she re- married, she sold the home in town and placed that money towards his farm just outside of town...My mother worked up until 1966, then she gave more time to the local Church and the farm....
My mother traveled alot with my step dad, fishing and site seeing and visits back and forth across the United States spending as much time as she could with my grandparents and relatives in NewYork...As mother became more home bound she began craftting lamp dolls and beautiful quilts, working in the flower beds. she helped with the cattle, canned and worked for the church. Later they sold that farm and moved to a larger farm outside St.Helens Oregon...where they bred, showed and sold there herfords, she continued gardening, and planting her special flowers. Later around in 1973 she became ill and was unable to continue her crafts and helping with the farm, she died in 1983 of Cervical Cancer. For 10 years She kept her illness a secret from her family. Our last few days with mom were special...We gave the best home care possible..The last thing my mother said before she died, Please don't shed tears for me, smile for I am going to live with the father....My Mother was a most phenomenal and Wonderful Woman!!!! |
