On
our second day we finally make it to our very first Mayan ruin! Unbelievable
- the famous Chichen Itza! Check Laura and Katie out... "Strike a pose"!
This picture was taken on our way up the main pyramid "El Castillo". This
picture is gonna be in the next Green Tortoise catalog! Spend most of the
day wandering around through the many ruins with Eva while trying to get
to know each other. I even learn some Hungarian expressions, but don't
ask me to repeat them...! Already then I start to notice what a wacky woman
Eva really is!
Eva
and me in front of El Castillo. What a hot day, 5 hours in the blazing
sun. By the time we're all back in the bus, half of us are totally sun
burnt and exhausted so we're pretty quiet on the long drive to Playa del
Carmen - a cute but pretty touristy Caribbean town . We all go out to dinner
(try to go in a smaller group this time) and afterwards some actually start
dancing in the street! Later Andy, Bill and I go to the Tequileria! Oh
my God, I didn't know that so many different tequila brands even existed.
After trying several different kinds we make our way back to the bus and
find Ace, Katie and Daren quite freaked out: some guys tried to steal Katie's
luggage and then wanted to force themselves into the bus!!!! Very exciting!
The
next day we have breakfast on the beach, then spend the day relaxing, sunbathing,
snorkeling and swimming and of course we get even more sun burnt. Poor
Bill and Ace are trying to get the airbag fixed and are not being very
successful. Since our departure is delayed, we decide to check our email
at the local internet cafe (I know it's sick that we can't even go for
a couple of days without the Internet!). What a surprise when I see Josh
sitting in front of the cafe! Big hug! We all convince him to travel along
with us for a couple of days.
Here is a cute picture of Marc
and Daren's proud purchase: chicken & coke in a bag for 26 pesos. What
a bargain!!! (That's Coke-Cola not the other kind...)
