Off to Coba - the highest pyramid in the Yucatan! After a half hour walk with Laura through the wilderness (not knowing if we are going the right way or just getting lost forever) we make it to the main pyramid. Coba is a copy of the famous Tikal in Guatemala. Another very hot day in paradise! What a hike up to the top. You really have to watch your step - the stairs are so uneven...
`
On top with Ace, Chris &
Laura. Beautiful views, without the tourist crowds... Jungle as far as
you can see. It's like being at the top of the world. You can see one of
the smaller temples in the background amidst the rain forest canopy.
This baby monkey is soooo cute
and cuddly...! After a while I have enough but then just can't get
the sweet thing off me - Eva and Karen have to help me pull it off and
it takes lots of cooing and time (about 15 min!!), we almost miss the bus!
Spend that evening and the next
morning at Cenote Azul - most of out time we just waiting for Chris finally
jump off the stupid roof into the water! It starts pouring with rain around
dinner time. This is the only bad weather we have on the whole trip - God,
i won't ever forget the muddy floor on the bus! The next day twe have a
contest between Daren and Rudi. Daren jumps the furthest and Rudi jumps
the highest and longest (whatever!). Men!
We then drive to Cozumel and
spend the afternoon in the Mayan Museum. Later on Mel and I go to the local
market and rummage through the stands. But don't end up finding what we
want - shoes!
Lucky for us - we're at the right place at the right moment: the carnival is in town! Yeah! We have time to check out the stands and the colorful floats, to drink lots of beer, learn some salsa with Andy and then play a little pool and fusball (Mel and I rock at that!) before we leave after midnight to drive through the night.
