GO BACK TO THE TOP
In the meantime, God has been impressing upon us to get down there to getthings going. Schools start up in February in Nicaragua, so it would bea shame to only have half a month's construction done before then. A smallteam has just been formed to head down on October 24th for a one week trip. They will be going down mostly for morale and goodwill, but also to seta deadline for getting startup funds ready for the construction and tohelp get the foundation and walls underway. Hopefully this team will beable to get things rolling well enough that the team in January will beable to do the finishing touches so school can open on schedule.
It looks like there will be a group of about 4 guys from the HonorBoundMinistry at Valley GospelChapel in Anza, California. The church there will be raising the fundsto send the team, which includes a block mason and a labor instructor whoare able to speak some Spanish. These men will work hand-in-hand with themen at the camp and other Nicaraguan laborers to start putting up the walls(a local group will already have the foundation poured).
The local crews will continue the building until the January team arrives. At that point, the first large work group will head down, led by eitherPastor Darrell Yarbrough of LaPalmaChristian Center, or Pastor Jeff Campbell of HaciendaHeights Assembly of God. Pastor Phil Owens of NewLife Assembly of God in California City is looking at bringing a teamfrom the Mojave Section in March 2000. With the small start-up team andtwo or three large follow up teams, the school should be looking greatby the end of the school year!
What's Needed: The greatest needright now is for $10,000 to buy the materials to start construction andto get the foundation poured. Pastor Wayne Karr of Valley Gospel Chapelwill be making a special appeal to the churches in the Desert Section. Most of the HonorBound sectional representatives are appealing to theirsections in early September as well. Pastor Yarbrough's church has alreadycommitted to a large amount for the startup costs. A fund has been setup with Latin America ChildCare(the agency that will be running the school) to handle the funds. TheLACC project number is 8039. It is known as the San Jones project, because this is the name of the area.
In addition to these funds, there is an opportunity to purchase an additional6.8 acre parcel next to the current work site for $4,000. It is an opportunitythat we should not miss. Some of our churches have expressed interest inhelping with this purchase. Gifts for this property can be send to thesame LACC account listed above.
These two needs combine to leave us needing a total of $14,000 raisedby the middle of September in order for the first team to get this allstarted! Please consider giving to this most worthy cause. Informationon how to send contributions is listed below...
