On 12 February 2006 Lemon ran his fifth and fastest marathon in 4:46:39 (shaving off 10 minutes from his last year¡¦s record) at Hong Kong Marathon 2006.
Lemon originally planned to run two marathons this season but had to give up the Singapore one in December 2005 due to insufficient training caused by various ailments. He increased his mileage since December by doing long (25-32K) runs and biking (Tai Wai to Tai Mei Tuk return). The hard work paid off.
This time, he was able to run all the way from start to finish (with minor cramps not bad enough to halt him to walking).
When the going got really tough during the last quarter of the race, he sang (to himself and fellow runners; though whether his peers were appreciative was a question) in a hoarse, but audible, voice these few lines of R Kelly¡¦s I Believe I Can Fly, ¡§I believe I can fly; I believe I can touch the sky; I think about it every night and day; Spread my wings and fly away; If I believe it then I can do it¡¨, and the song of his alma mater, ¡§Boys of courage, Boys of Daring¡K.¡¨
His determination (to run despite another ailment before the race), dedication (time and sweat), and musical talent (!) thus carried him through to the finish line in his fastest ever time of 4:46:39!
