Tropics, two parallels of latitude on the terrestrial globe lying equidistant from the equator from latitude 23°27' north to 23°27' south, the most northerly and southerly points on the earth's surface at which the sun is perpendicular at noon on at least one day of each year. Between these latitudes are all those points on the earth's surface over which the sun is almost directly overhead during the entire year. (Microsoft Encarta 98)
Some countries are found on both tropics and temperate regions. If we follow the definition above, the United States of America would be both on the tropics and temperate zones. The US mainland and Alaska are on the temperate zone while Hawaii is on the tropics. However, there are countries where they are found exclusively on the tropics or the temperate. Philippines, Venezuela, and the Ivory Coast are found on the tropics only while Mongolia, Korea, and France are on the temperate side.
