Maui Community College
By Leah Stittsworth
The Academy of Travel
and Tourism attended a placement testing process at Maui Community
College. Though some dreaded the
testing process, I really didn’t mind.
Personally, I realized the test needed to be taken, and figured by
taking it with the AOTT; I wouldn’t have to pay a fee. Although most tests really bother me, this
one on the contrary did not. I guess
because it was more so like an SAT. I
didn’t get graded on how well I did, but on rather if I took it or not. The test consisted of a Math section and an
English section. I did well on the
English section, but I didn’t do as well as I had hoped for on the Math
section. I learned that the test gives
you some hard questions in the beginning and if you answer it correctly, then
you’ll keep on getting harder ones, one after the other. But if you answer incorrectly, you get
easier ones until the test is over.
After we took the test, which took a total of about an hour and a half,
the travel academy headed on over to the mall.
Usually, I hate shopping and going to the mall. So honestly I wasn’t looking forward to
hanging out over there for the remainder of the time. It ended up however, being a good time that I spent finishing up
my Christmas shopping while still finding enough time to get an outfit for
myself. All in all, the day spent on
the other side with AOTT was a good one.
I didn’t mind the test at all and I was pleased I was able to take it
charge free while receiving 2 grades for AOTT.
I really appreciate how the Academy of Travel and Tourism takes the time to arrange these things that gives us opportunities to better and further our
education and future. Hopefully by
taking the test, I will be better
prepared, especially in the math section, if I decide to take the test
again. I hope my scores will increase,
and I will be able to see a change between these scores and my future ones.
Kelvie Shelton – The importance of the placement test is to learn
how the test works and to test your level of thinking/analytical skills in both
Mathematics and English.
Krystal
Sandi – It was good because it gives the students an idea of where they
stand.
