Day 3 - Jerusalem
Our next stop was Yad Vashem, the holocaust memorial. Inside are exhibits that depict the horrors of the persecution of the Jews in this century and perspective on why Israel is so important to its people.
This was a special place for Lisa. During college, she prepared a paper telling the remarkable story of her grandparents, who escaped Poland and the Nazis to Shanghai. A Japanese diplomat aided them by the name of Sugihara.

At Yad Vashem, a tree is planted for each person who helped the Jews escape the holocaust. Here, Lisa has found the one planted for Sugihara.
