This specially tailored tour consists of a visit to a gold mine as well as a diamond mine. Both these mines are in daily operation and tourists will thus experience the life on a mine. This three day tour can be incorporated in other tours or be done on its own.
Visit Gold Reef City where you will be taken on a tour of the mine. This will be your introduction to mining in South Africa. After an interesting tour, we will leave for real gold mining country, namely Welkom, in the Free State Province. Overnight Welkom.
We rise early and drive to a Gold mine, where protectional clothing are issued, i.e. hart top hats, overalls and boots for we are about to be taken on tour through a real working gold mine. We will meet the gold miners, and get a fascinating look into their world. After a shower, we will leave for Kimberley, diamond mining country! Overnight Kimberley.
Kimberley is world famous for the Big Hole, the biggest man made hole in the world and it is worth a visit. Depart after breakfast for a surface and underground tour (to a depth of 820 m/2 600 ft) of an operational Kimberley Diamond Mine (including 2 videos to view and kit) – short city scenic drive and tour of the famous Kimberley Big Hole and mine museum. After lunch working hand and modern digging operations, see diamond engravings and diamond gravel sorting (possible surprise) and meet some real life diamond diggers.
Travel to Bloemfontein for a visit to this historic city. Visit the War Museum and Women’s Memorial, Naval Hill, Grey College, the oldest school north of the Orange River and the orchid house. Overnight Bloemfontein.
Return to Johannesburg /Travel to Cape Town.
