Is there any beverage on earth better than beer? I when you first try it, say around the age of 10 or 12, you absolutely hate the taste. In many cases it's bitter, and totally unlike the Coca-Cola you are used to drinking.
Then as you age to be about 18, you don't care what it tastes like anymore, you just want to get wrecked. So you drink cases upon cases upon kegs of the frothy concoction. In many scenarios, consumption is paired with multiple blackouts, vomiting episodes, and for the lucky, sexual promiscuity. It is then you begin to appreciate the beer gods.
Finally you become an adult. At this point you've become so accustomed to the taste of beer, it doesn't taste bad to you anymore, and you just drink it either for enjoyment or to quench a thirst. A cold beer and a juicy burger is one of life's true treasures. Although you may not have noticed it as a kid, you now truly see what a great invention beer is.
Under normal drinking circumstances my friends and I drink domestic beers such as Budweiser, Coors, Busch, Rolling Rock, and Miller Genuine Draft. Good, honest, everyday beers that anybody could honestly appreciate. However, that doesn't mean we won't experiment....
As far as crossing the Canadian border goes, my friends and I all enjoy a good Molson, preferably Ice (in bottles, not cans), Golden, Canadian, or Red Jack.
Labatts Blue aint too bad either, eh?
However, if we decide to splurge (spend over $20), which is rare because most of my friends are cheapasses, we go out and get a case of Corona Extra and a bunch of limes. Everybody loves Corona. "La Cerveza Mas Fina," now that is a party!
Personally, I like to experiment with beers from 'round the world. A guy can get Bud anytime he wants, right? Dos Equis es muy fantastico!
I mean it tastes good and its Mexican! Can it get any better?
Other of my friend's beer preferences seem to be:
Dave- Yuengling Lager
Mostel- Grolsch
Nick- Molson Canadian
Len- Molson Red Jack
Sam- Coors Light
Steve- Yuengling Lager
However, being an afficianado of alcohol, I feel drinking fine brews should not stop at beer. Dragon Stout from Jamaica is really good. It's hint of chocolate gives it a sweetness that is not found in many other Stouts.
Woodchuck Amber Draft Cider is another great alternative to tradtional lager beers becuase it's hard apple cider. It tastes really good, similar to a sour apple Jolly Rancher, but is not quite as tart or sweet. Thank God it has finally been made widely available in Pennsylvania. But if you cant find it in your area, try either Woodpecker, Hard Core, or Cider Jack, all other brands of hard ciders.
