The Origins of the Name Creedence Clearwater Revival
Here's the deal, plain and simple.
When the band first began playing music, they were known as The Golliwogs. Great name, eh? Well, their producer didn't think so either, and he continuously pressured them to change it. After time and lack of attention wore thin on the band, they agreed to a name change. But what would it be?
Legend has it that the Fogertys had a friend by the name of Creedence. Easy enough. The Clearwater supposedly arose from a beer commercial. This commerical promoted its beer by stressing the merits of brewing with clean, clear water. It sounded good, hence the Clearwater. Now the Revival comes from two sources. One, with a new name, the band and their music would be reborn, or revived. Plus, the style of music the band favored playing was a form of older Louisiana music, thus reviving its style.
Put those three elements together, and you get: Creedence Clearwater Revival. I don't know if this tale is true, however this is how it was relayed to me. Therefore, in the style of medieval storytelling, that is how I relay it to you.
