RELOCATION INFORMATION
The area of South Park is surrounded by mountain ranges to form this 900 square mile grassland park. Located in the geographic center of the state the park averages an elevation of 9,000 to 9,900 feet in elevation. Federally -owned lands managed by the US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management comprise 52% of Park County's land mass. US Highways 285, 24, Colorado Highway 9, numerous county roads and National Forest access roads provide automobile access throughout the Park.
POPULATION CENTERS
Fairplay elevation 9,957 feet founded in 1867
Located at the intersection of US 285 and Colorado 9, Fairplay is known as the crossroads of the Central
Mountain Region. A recent study shows that at least 5,000 vehicles per day pass through Fairplay during
summer. Fairplay is also the incorporated seat of Park County. Population is now about 500. It is
estimated that about 1,000 more people reside in outlying areas. Fairplay is serviced with several
restaurants, two gas stations, grocery store, bank, two health clinics, and several gift shops/galleries.
Fairplay is also home to RE-2 District schools K-12. The town is also noted for it's South Park City
Museum, a restored gold mining town, and the Fairplay Nordic Center.
Towns also in the South Park area include Alma, Como, Jefferson and Hartsel. EMPLOYMENT
The most recent labor and employment stats show more of the population working in the private sector
than in government (about 1/3 in government). Because the economy is largely dependent on tourism
and construction, many of the jobs are seasonal. Many people work the summer/fall in South Park and
commute to the Breckenridge area for winter ski related employment. CLIMATE

Fairplay- ave. Jan. temp. (min/max) 9/28F
Fairplay- ave. annual precipitation 13.6"
Fairplay- ave. annual snowfall 84"
We see mostly dry weather until late July- when haying starts and Mountain Man Rendezvous take place.
Even the winters are usually dry until late March through mid May- then we see many heavy wet snows
that melt away by the next day. The winter temperatures may sound cold but when you take away the
humidity factor that most of the rest of the country sees , its really not that bad.PUBLIC SCHOOLS
