The best night-time views of the volcano are to be had from the west side of the volcano looking east at the red lava flows. The degree of activity varies from week to week; sometimes it can be a spectacular display of flowing red hot lava and incandescent rocks flying through the air. At other times the volcanoe subsides to a gentle glow.
