The bright green basilisk lizards are seen on or near water, and the males are noted for the huge crests running the length of their head, body and tail, giving them the appearance of a small dinosaur. They can reach almost a metre in length and are nicknamed Jesus Christ lizards for their ability to literally run across water when they are disturbed.
