Aransas/Redfish Bays and Northward
Croaker are working best on trout along deeper drop-offs of St. Charles, Aransas and Redfish bays. Reds also are in the potholes of Estes Flats and surrounding flats. Most were caught with cut bait or live perch, dead menhaden. Copano Bay's back shorelines and reefs and Aransas Bay reefs were good for trout on croaker this week. Trout also were along Mud and Traylor islands and the drop-off on the backside of San Jose Island. Brown & Root flats is holding a few schools of redfish. San Antonio Bay produced trout and drum near reefs. The back lakes of Matagorda and San Jose islands held redfish.
Port Aransas
A few kingfish are being caught along the jetties. Early morning trout, pompano and Spanish mackerel were at the jetties when winds allowed this week. Trout were along the ship channel and in East Flats. The inside of Dagger Island and tight against Dagger's outside shore has reds on natural baits, topwaters and soft plastics. Trout were caught along drop-offs behind Mustang Island on flies and croaker.
Gulf beachfront
Trout are starting to show up along area beaches, but high winds prevented most anglers from catching any. Water clarity had improved and sargasssum remains spotty. Driving is OK. Anglers also caught redfish, whiting, Spanish mackerel and a few sharks earlier this. Trout, Spanish mackerel, reds and jacks were caught along the Packery jetties earlier this week.
Offshore
Snapper season is to open in federal waters. And snapper trips have been producing fish when seas are calm enough. When seas have allowed anglers in party boats and charter anglers have been catching good numbers of amberjack, ling, a few kingfish, grouper, vermilion snapper, tuna on long trips a few wahoo and sharks.
Corpus Christi/Nueces Bays
Fishing in Nueces Bay was difficult in high wind. Portland shoreline of Corpus Christi Bay still has trout. Croaker is working best as bait. When winds allowed, Nueces Bay produced mostly trout and reds near mid-bay reefs. Drum were caught near the bridge and beyond on back- and mid-bay reefs when winds allowed this week. Trout and scattered reds had been in the Boathole, near Pelican Island, Deadmans and East Flats. Shamrock this week produced redfish on the flats and back lakes, with trout along drop-offs. The outside spoils along the ship channel near Ingleside produced trout near the drop and reds near shore this week on croaker.
Laguna Madre
Landcut and the mouth of Baffin Bay produced good numbers of trout this week mostly on croaker. Shrimp also caught fish for drift anglers. Baffin continues to produce good trout near shallow and deep rocks and shorelines on croaker. Rocky Slough also is producing trout. The Meadows has scattered trout with a few reds. Shorelines and spoils north and south of Baffin also produced fish for waders. Waters east and west of the ICW near the causeway were slow this week. Anglers caught a few black drum, trout, sand trout, ladyfish and reds mostly at night at Marker 37
