GUADALAJARA! With a population of 4 million, Guadalajara is Mexico's second largest city, and is the capital of the state of Jalisco. It has all the assets of a large, urban center without the extreme problems that huge Mexico City suffers. Guadalajara is sometimes known as the most Mexican city because many of the things which foreigners stereotypically associate with Mexico originated here. Mariachi music, the Mexican hat dance and tequila all come from the Guadalajara region. |

As in every Mexican city, the Zocalo or main plaza is the heart of Guadalajara.
On the Zocalo there's always a flock of hungry pigeons for the children to feed.
Facing the Zocalo is the Cathedral of Guadalajara. This imposing structure was begun in 1558. Centuries of renovations and additions have left it a hodge-podge of architectural styles.
