TEOTIHUACAN - CITY OF THE GODS (2)
Near the Pyramid of the Moon is a restored structure known as the Palace of the Feathered Butterfly. This building may have been the residence of Teotihuacan's royalty or of the priests who conducted religious rites at the Pyramid of the Moon.

The entrance to the Palace of the Feathered Butterfly

At the entrance to the Palace is a stone carving of the god Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent. Feathered butterflies and feathered serpents??? In ancient Mexican mythology the feather (especially the feather of the Central American quetzal bird) was considered a divine symbol of beauty and was combined with other creatures.

The courtyard of the Palace

On the pillars in the courtyard are carved images of the Feathered Butterfly... hence the name of the Palace.
