THE HIGHLANDS OF CHIAPAS (9)
The last stop on our tour of Chiapas is Agua Azul (Spanish for "blue water"). About 3 hours from San Cristobal are a series of cascades. The limestone rock beneath the water gives it a striking shade of turquoise.

On a hot afternoon Agua Azul is a perfect spot to swim and cool off.

The once inaccessible spot is now a favorite with Mexican travelers.

Of course, common sense dictates that you do not attempt to swim in the rapids!

I hope you have enjoyed the tour of Chiapas. If you want more information or if you have been to Chiapas I would enjoy receiving e-mail from you. I would be especially interested in hearing from anyone who has been there since the recent Zapatista rebellion. Hasta luego!
