TRAVELS
Who Are Those People?
He is Carl aka Loco Gringo, Banana Man or just H. She is his wife. They have been married since 1897 (or is that 1987?) which is almost forever. They live in Central Texas and have dogs, cats and chickens on their 4 acres of pine forest.
What Are They Doing Here?
They are doing what almost everyone else is doing here..showing off and bragging about where they've been and aren't they clever to put it on the WWW?
Where Have They Been?
Well, BC (Before Carl) she had been to Mexico, Canada, Japan and almost every state in the Union, including Alaska and Hawaii. He concentrated on beer runs to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Together they have been to Mexico, the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Colombia, Panama, Jamaica, Honduras, the UK and Ireland.
When Did They Do This?
They took their first cruise in 1990, went to Cancun in 1996, Puerto Vallarta in 1997 and Costa Rica in March of 1998.
A banner year for traveling, 1998 also included a trip to Las Vegas and a Panama Canal cruise.
Why Do They Do It?
Because they can.
Ok, enough of the third person nonsense. Let's talk about vacations. Our first vacations together were simple day trips to the Mexican border. Then we got adventurous and took a train from Nuevo Laredo to Monterrey. That's the trip Carl acquired the title, "Loco Gringo" when he got off the train at a whistle stop to buy a snack. He forgot he didn't speak Spanish and while he was trying to understand how much he owed, the train began leaving without him. A scene straight out of the movies..the train picking up speed, him running as fast as he could, the end of the platform fast approaching and then a last-second grab of the hand of the conductor to pull him into the train. Needless to say, I didn't speak to him for an hour.
We moved to California for a while and did most of the local tourist attractions. In 1990 we got a wild hair between our toes (fooled you there, didn't I?) and took back-to-back cruises. Our first was a Carnival cruise out of Florida to the Bahamas. We then flew back to California, drove to Long Beach to spend the night on the Queen Mary and set out the next day on a Norwegian cruise to Ensenada, Mexico.
Other great vacations have been to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. The picture below was taken in Puerto Vallarta as we boarded the yacht for a day trip to a snorkeling site...unfortunately, the water was very murky, so there weren't too many sights at the site. Not to be dismayed though, we partied with the locals. As always, Carl, aka Loco Gringo, was a big hit.
Captain Loco Gringo and whatsername.
Naturally, we have pictures of most our travels and I have posted some of them here. Check them out through the following links.
