VILLA DE LA YUNTA
Small tour about a Castilian town
The Villa of La Yunta is a small town of the county of Guadalajara, located to the northeast and twenty kilometers away from Molina de Aragon. Its township is bounded by the counties of Zaragoza and Teruel.
Its central area is shaped by right streets that cross forming squares, highlighting its main square in which are located its main buildings: a great tower constructed by San Juan's Order toward the XIV century and the church, probably constructed toward the XVII century.
The Villa this located in full plain, surrounded of fields of cereal what makes that the color of the landscape changes depending on the season of the year in which we are: brown in the autumn with the laboured fields, green in spring with the cereal being born and yellow in summer with the spikes browned by the sun.
For those that don't know the Castilian climate it is useful to say that it is cold and dry. Even in days of August when the sun burns and high temperatures are reached, the nights are fresh if not cold.
Located at an altitude of 1.100 meters, it has about 200 inhabitants, amount that increases in the months of summer. The distance from the capital of the county is of 160 kilometers. It has as other capitals of next counties Zaragoza at a distance of 120 Km and Teruel at 100 kilometers of distance approximately. The peace and tranquility that enjoys this place changes completely in the second fothnight of August when the town celebrates its summer festivities in honor to the "Santo Cristo del Guijarro". Young people's "peñas" invade the town, the music and happiness arrive at all the homes. The most traditional festivity takes place the third day of May. Since this festivity does no coincide with the holiday period, it has less visitors, but nevertheless, it has a great animation.
The town lives, almost exclusively, of the agriculture, the services and the industry are nonexistent. The vicinity with the lagoon of Gallocanta and the existence of other small lagoons makes it to be an ideal place for the observation of migratory birds. In its township there is also an important archaeological location with a Celtiberian necropolis. One of the men's biggest hobbies in the place is the hunt, specially the quail and the partridge hunt, the township has a hunting preserve and when the close season finishes the fields fill with hunters of the place and of other counties.
