Okay, for the people that don't know me inside out and upside down... I am from Australia and live in a remote little town called Wyndham. Wyndam is 3,068km from Perth, the capital city of Western Australia (that is in direct distance, to drive would probably be more along the lines of nearly 4,000km). But before I start rabbiting on about Wyndham, here are some facts about Australia that you may not know. (And these facts can be used at your leisure in Yahoo Trivia Room! hehehe).
Australia has the title of being the smallest continent in the world as well as being the most flatest. We are the only continent not to have an active volcano. Added to this trivia is that Australia also has the distinction of being the only continent that is a single country. In land mass, Australia is virtually the same size as the United States, however we have more sheep than people! LOL. Australia is renowned for its beautiful beaches and amazing landscape, but it also has the privelege of having the worlds longest reef - Great Barrier Reef - off the coast of Queensland. The city of Perth (where I am originally from) is also known to be the most isolated capital city.
Okay! enough trivia! Phew.. was getting a little carried away there! Now.... back to Wyndham.... I have only lived here since March 1997 and I must say that the scenery is so breathtaking that sometimes it seems unreal that I actually live here! (And if you don't believe me.... well, you will have to come and visit to prove me wrong! hehehe) Wyndham was the major meat works in the north of Western Australia, however since about the mid-1960's this closed down and the town has struggled to keep from becoming a ghost town. It still has the port and is one of the many in the north that service mining export, aswell as live beef cattle exports. (which is really stinky especially when you go fishing off the wharf .... pwhoa!)
The township of Wyndham is very small, a population of approximately 800. We also have Australia's largest boab tree in "captivity", that is it is located on the local caravan park! As Wyndham is situated at the base of the Cambridge Gulf the five rivers meet at this point and from the vantage point of the Bastion, you can see these. The five rivers that meet here are: Forrest, Pentecost, King, Durack and Ord. (remember this! will ask a pop quiz at the end! hehehe) In 1942, a state ship named Koolama was bombed off Darwin. Somehow this ship made it to Wyndham, unfortunately it sunk, and now lies 100metres out from the wharf. At low tide the ripples can show you the exact position of the wreck.
Enough about Wyndham? Okay... but if you would like to check out a cool website....
