Currently working on my Rescue Diver Certificate-Summer/Fall 2000

May 19, 1998 I went on my first "official dive" as a certified diver! A bus took me from the cruise ship to the Nassau Scuba Dive Centre in Nassau, Bahamas. I brought all of my diving equipment except for the weight belt and tank. It was a beautiful, sunny day. A dive boat took me to my first dive location. Visibility was a good 60 feet! I saw exquisite, colorful fish and coral. First I swam over and explored the "Tongue of the Ocean" which is a wall dive. On one side of the wall there is a 6000 foot drop. You fly off the coral shelf and hover over the deep abyss! I went down to 74 feet. I dive with a computer that checks depth, pressure, nitrogen, and time. Then I swam over to the "David Tucker Wreck". This was also very exciting to explore. Before I knew it, bottom time was up and it was time to go back to the boat for lunch and hang out for surface time.

The second dive was even more exciting. Needless to say, I am always first to jump in. They told us the sharks were already here! I looked down from the surface and could see the shark circling at the bottom. The video photographer was already down and filming. My buddy and I were making our way to the bottom which was 60 feet. The two or three sharks I saw were swimming and circling! I was constantly watching my back. We saw more coral, fish, eels and lobster. We swam over to the "Bahama Mama" ship wreck! We were surrounded by a school of fish. It was beautiful and so awesome. I will never forget it. It is another world down there!

For my advanced certification, I had to dive on the San Diego Wreck off of Fire Island Inlet, Atlantic Ocean. The San Diego lies in 110 feet of water. She is one of Long Island's scuba hot spots. Divers can find artifacts like bullets, portholes, cage lamps, china and brass valves.
