Welcome to the Buckingham's

COME ON DOWN WHERE IT IS HOT, HOT, HOT!

Welcome to the Conch Republic

The Southern Most House in the U.S. - Somethings you just gotta see!

Once you change your latitude, baby - you gotta change that attitude and where better else to do it than in our SOUTHERNMOST point - Key West.  I used to go here on my birthday - as a little present to myself (I used to give myself lots of presents like that - then I bought a house, got re-married and "settled down").  I love it down there.  I love the 8 hour ride from my house to the southernmost point of the United States.  I love the heat, I love the humidity and I love the Keys.  (I used to dream of retiring there but then I heard about the property taxes and the moratorium on building - so now unless we win the Florida Lottery - I will be not going that far south.)  In the early 90s I thought of moving down there, but that didn't work out.  That is how much I love it.  Gardening is great and you don't need a heater (we don't have a heater here in Tampa either, but then that is another story-brrrr.) If you are interested in Florida gardening please see my gardening page!

Speaking of weather - let's see what it's like right now in Key West.

Take the train - do the tour! The tour of old town is so cool - please take the train & do the tour.  It doesn't take long - the whole Island is only 1 sq. mile.  But you will learn a lot.  You will see Conch houses and hear stories about Papa (Ernest) Hemmingway and other old salts who called Key West home (it used to be fun to go in  July to the Papa look alike contest - going to drink and seeing all those old guys in beards - what a trip.  Now the family is ruining that I hear.) Learn how to read the railings outside the homes (you never noticed those hearts and bottles before, but once they are pointed out, you will never miss them again), find out why a widows walk is just that.

Puts a new meaning on 'Bed knobs & broomsticks!'Come to Fantasy Fest in October (in Tampa we have Guavaween), or how about the bed races in April.  That is something YOU WILL NEVER FORGET.  Make sure you pick up a shirt at one of the 2 Harley shops.  And that you hit all the bars, but be sure to take the tour - so you don't miss seeing and knowing about this wonderful little island, that I wish I could have called home.

Please visit Margaritaville, just to say you went there, Jimmy your cool in concert and I dig hanging at your little clubs!Step on over hereHog breath, smog breath, by now - who cares!

Do NOT miss sunset at Malory Square - the sun never sets, unless its over water! And now, let's move on up the state & see the rest of the Keys.

That concludes our trip to Key West, as the sun sets into the Gulf (damn what great water!!!) and you are clapping and drinking margarita's - don't forget, tomorrow - let's take a trip to the rest of the KEYS!
