Marine Mammals

My experiences

Although my strongest connection is with dolphins, I also love all other marine mammals. I have seen Sea Lions, Sea Otters and Grey Whales in the wild. They are all beautiful creatures, but I must say seeing a Grey Whale up close was amazing. They are so incredibally big and at the same time graceful and majestic.

About Marine Mammals

Marine Mammals are a group of animals that breath air, but live for the most part under water. All marine mammals have a thick layer of blubber which keeps them warm, except for the Sea Otter which spins around creating a pocket of air against its skin to keep warm. The Whale is the largest marine mammal and can be divided into two general groups, baileen and toothed whales. The baileen whales, which are the largest, take in huge amounts of water through their baileen and capture tiny organisms while toothed whales feed on fish and squid. The Sea Lion is one of the marine mammals that does not spend its entire life in the water, it likes to climb up on rocks and take in the sun. The Manatee, also known as the sea cow is the most endangered marine mammal.
