Comodoro Rivadavia was founded in 1901
starting from a large shed that built Francisco Pietrobelli, so the Ideal
Colony, (today Sarmiento) could have a port to sell their production.
The city is named honouring Comodoro Martín Rivadavia, a seaman
that between 1890 y 1892 explored Patagonian shores beacause National Goverment
wanted to create a port
in Central Patagonia. Until 1907 it developed like a comercial place
serving sheeps estalishments and Colonia Ideal, beacause it was the only
port in a lot of Km.
In that times, it was so great water necesities
that it was necesary to start some drilling, searching for it,
this works were conducted by Beghin y Fuchs technicians
(why usually it is only named Beghin?), but they found oil instead.
The town begins to prosper working with the oil,
this activity had a boom in sixties, when it was allowed the establishment of
foreing companies. This explosive growing is beacause the city has so unordered way.
This is beacause, today, Comodoro, with 130.000 inhabitants,
is the most active city of all patagonia, south Negro River, not beeing Province capital.
It is main industrial, comercial,
bussines and services city of all region.
Althoug nowadays weather is not son rigurous
like it was in 50 o 60, the caracteristic of the city is that very often
the wind blows strong.Gusts of wind of 70 km/h do not afraid,
120 gets some atention, and makes somes damege, and when it blows
at 150 km/h (100 milles/hour) we begin to worry.(We had gusts of wind of
210 km/h, I think).
This fotographic tour(cyberturism?)
is not the same that walk in the streets, getting hot in his risings streets and trying
that wind not throw away you to the floor, but is better than nothing.

In the Panoramic Point the sight of the sea is
!!impresionant!!!. It is a pity that the day I took the pictures had some fog
(in my brain, not in the place), and of best view I do not take a picture.
But the fotos are very good. Take a look
But atention, if the wind blows even this vist is dangerous.
Actually this place is outside the city, going to Sarmiento, but it is one of those uniques places in the world, so I advise you to go. This page is possible beacause Juan Carlos Teloni gave me the photos.
(It is not very polite from your part to ignor
all the work I have had making these fotographic tours, and use this option first
time, but anyway, go on if you want).
This is another site of Comodoro that I know. You can see that there are more information about the city than in mine. It is beacause main is essencially a photographic tour in the city.
If you want to ask me something send me an e-mial.I do not guarantee that I will be able to help you (usually I have few time), but you do not loose anything and your question do not disturb me.
