I spent a marvelous
week on that beautiful island of Superagüi and so I decided to make
a homepage about that wonderful place and its population.
The island "Ilha do Superagüi"
is an artificial island, it was created in 1953, consequence of the construction
of the Varadouro channel.
In 1989 the island was declared
national park with an area of 21400 ha, including almost the entire isle
of Superagüi and the isle "Ilha das Peças". Only the original
fishermen communities are excluded. The national park is part of a bigger
estuary lagoon, composed by Cananéia, Iguape and Paranaguá.
This region is one of the most important of the island, regarding alimentary
sustain. It includes sandbanks with several forms of vegatation, mangroves,
isolated hills, big areas of deserted beaches and several trails.
It shelters several animal species,
some of them rare or in extinction, like the "chauá" parrot, the
yellow belly alligator, the "sauá" and "coal" monkeys. Common trees
are "ipé", "jacarandá;" and "caxeta", and a lot of orchids.
The access is only marine, parting
from Paranaguá, Guaraqueçaba or the isle "Ilha do Mel".
I stayed in the lodging
"Pousada Sobre as Ondas" where
I felt at home there, thanks to the hospitality of Carioca and Denise,
the owners, who treat you like members of their family. Not to forget,
the excellent food (have you ever tried fried oysters???), prepared by
Wanderley, Carioca's brother.
Carioca
also organizes the passage and offers trips through the bay, just have
to combine with him. (sorry... no english spoken!!... if you're really
interested, try 0055/41-354-8795 for help).
The
fone of the lodging is 041/9978-4213 or from outside of brazil 0055/41/9978-4213.
