Every summer, Allegheny County offers 4 free big band concerts - 2 at the North Park skating rink, and 2 at South Park. August's concert, at the South Park Skating Rink, featured Rick Purcell and his big band playing the music of Cole Porter, Glen Miller, Duke Ellington and many others. The South Hills seniors flocked to the rink where a space was provided in front of the band for dancing. Such fun! A night out with our neighbors, watching some very smooth dancers doing the fox-trot, cha-cha, and jitterbug. This is the music we grew up with and we haven't forgotten.
