Combustible: the kind that comes in bricks,
cones and sticks
Noncombustible: raw or granular, made
from herbs that have been finely ground
Making your own
noncombustible incense
Needed items:
herbs
mortar and pestle
essential oils
self-igniting charcoal
censer
large wooden or ceramic bowl
Grind the ingredients to a powder using a mortar and pestle. In the bowl, mix together the gums and resins with your hands. Mix in the powdered leaves, roots, barks and flowers. Add any oils or liquids called for in the recipe. Store in a tightly capped, well-labelled jar. When you are ready to use your incense, light a self-igniting charcoal block and place it in the censer. Wait until the block is glowing, and it is no longer sparking. Sprinkle a half-teaspoon of incense onto the block. When the smoke starts thinning out, add a little more. |
