History

Sunderland were voted into the League in place of Stoke. They would remain for 57 seasons up to 1958, a record that would not be broken until 1984.

Blackburn Rovers win the FA Cup for the 5th time, equalling the record set in 1878.

The penalty kick was introduced. The penalty area markings would not appear until 1902.

No clubs were relegated.
