In the final matches of the season, Huddersfield Town beat Nottinham Forest 3 - 0. Cardiff City played at Birmingham. In the last minute of the game, Cardiff were awarded a penalty. This was missed and the game ended 0 - 0. These results meant that Huddersfield Town were Champions by goal average, the first club to do this.
