History

Manchester United win the Championship by 11 points equalling the record set in 1889. They become the first English club to enter the European Cup.

Birmingham City are invited to participate in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (later to become the Fairs Cup then the UEFA Cup). This irregular tournament is for clubs from certain cities.

The first floodlit matches in the League and FA Cup are played.
