THE CORAL DIVERS

MANATEE SITE

Caution, Manatee Zone

One of the premier spots in the world to view the endangered Manatee is Crystal River, Florida. But remember this; you must meet the Manatee on their terms. You must enter their environment & silently commune with them. They are wild & independent, so do not feed them. You must only let them approach you, do not chase them or molest them. Swimming with Manatee is a snorkel only trip, the bubbles from scuba divers frighten them. For current manatee counts, call 1-352-563-2088, @ U.S. Fish & Wildlife (updated every Tuesday). Local dive shops conduct daily tours, but I recommend you rent a boat, and visit at your leisure. Do it soon, do it now; who knows how long these gentle creatures will continue to dwell among us.

This site seeks to enlighten you about the endangered West Indian Manatee. Please cycle these pages and feel free to contact me with any questions. I can tell you from personal experience there is something very special about these slow moving giants and spending a few hours in their presence will change you forever.
