Superstar Gemini
3D2N Cruise to Tioman
24 - 26 July 1998
This cruise was a family cruise organised by my present company - ABS. Staff and their spouses were subsidised about half of the market rate as per cabin. As I was one of the committee members involving in the organising of this cruise, I was able to get a trial cruise 2 weeks before the actual departure date. What's more, both trial cruise and the actual family cruise were totally free for me! So you can imagine how happy I was ..^_^..
Unfortunately, it was raining during the trial cruise. As there were only 4 of our members in this cruise, there wasn't much fun. If you were not those who like to hang around in the casino, I guess other than taking some pictures for remembrance, it will be eating. There were only 2 restaurants that served buffet style. Usually, you can find different dishes in the first few meals. The food were quite nice at first, but after 3 days on board, you would feel sick of eating (although they are free). I couldn't imagine those who go for 5 days cruise.
After landing on Tioman, we realised that only house guests were taken care of. But the scenery was really great! If not for the rain, we would have stayed there longer and took more pictures of it. Anyway, I didn't take much photos during the trial cruise as my camera was stuck after a few shots.
However, everything was going on smoothly during the actual family cruise. About 164 people on my list (including their family members and friends) were here for the cruise. It was much more fun than the trial cruise. I have 2 close friends joining me this time.
That's me, Chris and Stella. This photo was taken at the entrance of Superstar Gemini by the photographer on board. Everyone was given a chance to take this welcome photo. After developed, they will put up all the photos taken by the photographer onto a display board the next day. If you are interested or satisfied with the photos, you can buy them. Or even have them made into key chain.
Our cabin was on deck 4. This was the
standard cabin which we have booked. |
The first place that we went was the Galaxy of the Star (Deck 5). It was actually a cabaret & showroom where all performances were held. Just like the entrance of Gemini, there will be a photographer at the entrance of Galaxy of the Stars. The character taking with us is the Star Cruise Character. The photo that I took alone with the character was taken during the trial cruise. |

We had our dinner at the Mariners Buffet (Deck 6) and chatted till late hours that night. Too bad another girl-friend of mine (among this group) wasn't here.
At around 8 in the morning, the cruise reached near Tioman Island. We had to take a ferry (provided by Star Cruise) over to the island. As there will be ferry transporting us over for every 15 mins interval, the 3 of us had our breakfast at the Mariners Buffet.
Set amidst miles of secluded palm-fringed beaches, crystal clear waters, colourful marine life, abundant flora and fauna ... Tioman is one of the most beautiful islands in the region. As the island was too big to fit into my camera, I have to divide them into 2 different shots.
These few shots were taken along the jetty.

These were photos were taken along the beach on the way back to the jetty.
As I had to return back to the ship checking on the preparation for that night family dinner cum prize givings with the rest of the committee members, we left after staying on the island for almost 6 hours. Before that, we took a few photos on board the ferry.
This photo was taken on the second level of the ferry.
Another photo taken from the ferry.

Look how beautiful the sea water is! I was actually
trying to take a photo of the group of tuna fishes that were swimming near the side of the
ferry. We were told that there are actually dolphins near the island. But we didn't get to
see them. Don't know whether it's true.

Sunset views from the top of Gemini. These were taken before the dinner. The dinner was held at the Pool Deck (Deck 8).

This is the Pool Deck. As you can see, the pool wasn't very big. This was where the dinner was held the night before.
Another shot of the Mariners Buffet, an area outside. |
We reached Singapore at about 1 in the afternoon. But the 3 of us only get down 1 hour later. We still have our lunch in the Mariners Buffet as there were a lots of people queuing up to get back their passports inorder to get back on land. This trip was real fun! Much fun than the trial cruise. Everyone really enjoyed this trip and hope the committee to organise such trip again the following year. Me too! ^_^
