WHO YAM I |
A beef-eating, poetry loving, vodka guzzling, inanity spouting, five foot five inches(er, almost) tall bachelor in a world where everyone else is married, I was launched in Trivandrum, capital of God’s own Kerala, India on the First of January, 1972.Fought my way through Engineering and was rewarded with a B.Tech in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation (You're right.I have no clue as to what it means either)for my efforts. Haven’t done anything remotely technical since(or then, for that matter). Soon I realised that I couldn’t make a living by doing anything which calls for exercise of my grey cells. Thus I joined the Civil Services after burning the afternoon oil in Hyderabad and Delhi. My first job was... well.. it's got Defence involved in it, so I better not reveal too much. I have become another of those bureaucrats whom you don't see everyday. As for my current job,let me put it this way. I come to office everyday to check my mail.
The Name Behind The Man
I’m the only guy I know who has been named after a bus;Jayasankar being the name of the bus that took my mom to college. Even now, I wouldn’t mind taking people for an occasional ride(hyuk! hyuk!)The full name is Varampintharayil Sankaran Jayasankar. With an ‘a’ after ‘y’ and no ‘h’ after ‘s’. That is right. Jayasankar- as in Jayasurya, Jayaprada and er.. Jayalalithaa.
People call me Jayasankar, Jay, Sankar, Sir, Da and a host of other colorful unprintables.
Ego, Super ego
I’ve been variously described as moody, lazy, temperamental, clumsy, perverted, greedy, fat, late, inconsistent, evasive, antagonistic etc. which gives you an idea of what a pain people are. Personally, if you ask me, I’d say I was talented, witty, resourceful , erudite, sensitive, helpful and charming. Which tells you what a good judge of character I am.
I am fluent in Malayalam, English and Hindi and delightfully vague in about 7 other languages which include Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Punjabi, French, Latin and Spanish. I read a lot and think a lot, which means I do nothing. When in a good mood I can sing.My famous rendition of Hotel California, circa 1993 would give Cacofonix a complex. Every now and then, I attempt poetry too.I have done four years of karate, acted in a movie, done a course in Art of Living, taught aspiring civil servants and generally made a fool of myself over the years.
