There's Something About Mary
One of the worst comedies I've seen in a long time. Am I being uptight when I say that I don't see what is so funny about comedies involving stalking? How can women watch this and not be offended by the humour? Even aside from this, the comedy was juvenile at best, even the saccharine moments were handled badly. The only funny moment was the part where the dog in the body cast rides on top of the car. Not even worth a rental.
Mission: Impossible
Slick, stylish and fun. A real surprise. Stays close to the style of the original television series. When this came out, people were really let down by the ending. I admit that the gum trick was used one too many times, and that the ending was not quite as strong as it could have been. Overall though, really entertaining, with all sorts of fun gadgets and masks and costumes, not to mention plenty of plot twists. When you watch it, be sure to look for director DePalma's nods to Hitchcock, whom he idolizes. I am looking forward to the sequel.
