This orange...thing..was found near Kinkakuji in Northern Kyoto. I don't know what it's for, I don't know what it does, but hey, it's orange. Actually, there are two colours available for shrines and temples...natural wood colour and bright safety orange. |

To give you some sense of scale, this lantern, if you look quite closely, was quite a lot bigger than the people standing at the foot of it. This picture was taken on the grounds of one of the biggest temples I have ever seen. It featured ropes made from women's hair, which were used in its construction hundreds of years ago. |

This frightening picture was taken from a good mile away, using a 2000mm zoom lens, as it was not deemed safe to approach. This creature apparently does not like cameras, especially up close. Hi Cathy! :) |
