KYOTO PAGE TWO

This orange...thing..was found near Kinkakuji in Northern Kyoto.  I don't know what it's for, I don't know what it does, but hey, it's orange.  Actually, there are two colours available for shrines and temples...natural wood colour and bright safety orange.

To give you some sense of scale,  this lantern, if you look quite closely, was quite a lot bigger than the people standing at the foot of it.  This picture was taken on the grounds of one of the biggest temples I have ever seen.  It featured ropes made from women's hair, which were used in its construction hundreds of years ago.

A pair of angst-ridden Japanese youth causing trouble on the temple grounds.

This frightening picture was taken from a good mile away, using a 2000mm zoom lens, as it was not deemed safe to approach.  This creature apparently does not like cameras, especially up close.  Hi Cathy! :)
