On our trip to Key West, my friend Wendy has everything planned. We have to go to Schooner's Wharf for Mother's Milk, a Key West drink made of Haitian rum, soda water, and a splash of Coke. | Then we go to Pepe's for oysters. After that, it's on to Margaritaville to hear our friend Graham and his band, Iko Iko. Iko is the house band at Tobacco Road, Miami's oldest (and just about only) Rock and Blues club. Last year, they worked with Jimmy Buffet on a musical called Don't Stop the Carnival, based on a novel by Herman Wouk. Jimmy says Iko Iko is his favorite rock band. | |
So the rumor is that Jimmy Buffet is going to come out and play. Anyway, Parrot Heads were crowding the place and it was like maybe Jesus was coming, or Jerry. And sure enough, he joins the band a whole set. They play "Honkey Tonk Women" and suddenly, through some mystical Key West mathematics, Jimmy Buffet=Mick Jagger. He pulls a woman out of the crowd to harmonize with him. Her friends are totally impressed... |
