Mr. Laing Goes to Washington
(Mrs. and Ms. Laing too)

In the summer of 2001, the Laings (Cleda, Gary, and Sherry) went to the other Washington (D.C., that is), and did all the usual tourist things: museums, monuments, crashing into senators.  It was hot and humid (just as promised). and inspiring and exciting (also as promised).  Some pictures and memories along the way ....

Well, actually, we started in Pennsylvania.  Harrisburg.  For the Spokane Children's Theatre to present their production of Pinocchio in the national finals of the American Association of Community Theaters annual competition.  (Gary was one of the musicians).

They didn't win, but they did themselves proud, and the adjudications were enthusiastic, insightful and positive.  The perfomance was a definite success!

We stayed at the Hilton.
It was hot.  With humidity.  We stayed inside a lot.

We ate.

And studied maps.

And checked out the theater.

And shopped.

And studied more maps.

And discovered that Pennsylvania has an interesting idea of what local attractions are apt to be a big hit with the tourists:

We decided not to go here.
Instead, when the performance was over, we drove to Washington D.C.
