Mr. Laing Goes to Washington

6
The Supreme Court

As it turned out, we spent several hours in the Capitol, and by the time we left, it was late afternoon.  The Supreme Court building was just across the street, so we headed in that direction.

Gary climbed the steps, while Mother and I waited below, too worn out in the heat for the ascent.

We were able to examine some of the architectural decorations and details (is the chip in the base of the marble column symbolic?)

Outside: first amendment rights in action.

Inside: the halls and chamber.

A last look.  And then find a (cool, air-conditioned) cab and back to the hotel for a cocktail before dinner.
