OKLAHOMA

May 2001

Jason and I left Saturday, May 19, 2001 from San Francisco, Calif. to enjoy a well deserved vacation at his Granny's house in Owasso, Oklahoma. We flew into Dallas/Ft. Worth and painfully boarded a small propellar flight to Oklahoma City. Unfortunatley, when we made the flight reservations, we failed to check what the proper destination airport should have been. Hense to say we should have flown into Tulsa.

We landed in Oklahoma City to be greated by hot, humid and wet weather. Defiinatley different than weather that we are used to in California. We rented our vehicle, and proceeded to begin the 2.5 hour drive to Owasso. Looking back, it wasn't a bad thing after all. We were able to view the true "green country," with rolling hills and grasses as far as the eye could see.

Arriving in Owasso at 9pm, we unpacked the car and headed in the house for some well needed “catch-up” talk with Granny.

During our 11 day stay at Granny's we visited the Will Rogers Museum (in Claremore) and Ranch (in Oologah). During our outings to explore the countryside I became “awed” by the term “Green Country.” I found that saying to be absolutley true.

We were also amazed by the size of the insects. Compared to the bugs in California, these things are Dragons!! We took a picture of a large moth compared to Jason's hand. These moths are so large they make frogs look small!! Also roaming around the land are rabbits, cows, longhorn steer (with babies), and turtles.

At Granny's there were lots of animals too. There is Prince and Beauty (horses), Miss Emily (goat), Lovey (formerly Dancer), Missy and Pumpkin (3 cats). The cats were about 15 years of age, with the except of Pumpkin who was 7 or 8. Lovey and Missy have since passed on to kitty heaven.

The weather treated us very nicely during our visit. There were a few severe thunder storms, including 14 tornados that touched down just south of Tulsa the second night of our vacation. Most of the time, the temperatures were moderate and the skies were always blue with "cotton ball" clouds. On a few nights, the temperature remained 80 degrees after sundown.
