Music! The greatest good we mortals know. This most ancient of arts makes the world weep and laugh, and wonder and worship. It forsters harmony among men and unites people of all kinds. When music and courtesy are better appreciated, there will be no tension.
Music is a thing of the soul, an instrument of God. It lightens labor and speeds play, it soothes the sad, refreshes the weary, breakes human barriers, stirs patriotic impulses and dignifies the activities of mankind.
In this century of nerves, we need a little of the relaxing quality of music. Take away music and one might as well remove the colors from the rainbow! Let's set all the world singing.
Who can't resist the riff or hot licks of a well-played guitar?
I certainly cannot. I grew up in a family that appreciates music.
I grew up playing instruments (trombone, recorder, water jugs, jaw harps)
and singing (choirs, choruses, bands, musicals), so music is strong in
my blood. Music is emotion set to rhythm. Music can be happy,
angry, solemn, maddening, you name it. The guitar is just one more
tool I have discovered that allows me to express myself. I am presently self-learning the Blues, which is actually easier to learn than most people think.
So, what do I have? What do I play?
At this time I have:
- a Jay Turser 6-string acoustic-electric (awesome sound plugged in!)
- an AXL acoustic-electric bass
- an OLP 5-string electric bass
- a Johnson acoustic 12-string (fitted with a hole-mounted pickup)
- a truly vintage 1978 Harmony 12-string (no longer playable)
- an antique ukelele (still not sure if I'll learn it, but it's so cute!)
I am a member in an eGroup on Yahoo! called 'Acoustic Bass Appreciation
Club'!
