Country of one-party rule puts fear, greed in control

By JACK MILLER
Published on: 11/04/04

Now that the election is over, those of us on the losing side will want to regroup and look for a reason to be optimistic. After all, we lost the presidency by only one state, right?

Even so, it was a devastating loss. Our nation is rapidly becoming a one-party country — a party that borders on theocracy and discriminates against those who are different or who hold different views from those in power.

With one-party rule, we are less free and have little chance for real diversity. Ironically, we are becoming like the regimes we condemn: the toppled Soviet Union with its single party system or the far-right religious rule of Islamic fundamentalists in Iran.

Fear and greed, war and corporate control rule the day.

We must let the heartbreak and the failure hit home, and acknowledge the loss our country has suffered. Make no mistake, the destructive effect is just beginning.
