Peat is one of the few natural resources of Ireland. In many places, this traditional fuel is still used to keep the fire place hot, although it smells terrible. While peat mining is nowadays done on large fields by heavy machinery, you will still find some places where peat is cut the traditional way (by manpower only), which leaves the traces you see on these pictures. |
