This stone fort near highway N 13 right at the turnoff to Inishowen
Peninsula was probably the residence of the kings of Ulster from the
5th thru the 12th century. The actual age of the construction
is, however, unknown.
The round, windowless wall encloses a circle of grass of approximately 24 m in diameter. The fort was restored thoroughly from 1874 thru 1878. Standing on top of the walls, you will experience a great view of the sea inlet and the surrounding plains. |
