The Cross of the scriptures in front of the Cathedral's entrance
is one of the most beautiful high crosses in Ireland. The cross, more than
4 meters high, was crafted in the early years of the 10th century.
The west side depicts the guarding of the grave, the capture of Jesus Christ, the betrayal by Judas and, above that, the crucified. On the east side, you will see King Dermont helping St. Ciaran to erect a pillar of the church. The figures above that scene have not yet been interpreted. The south side shows a Bishop and David holding his harp. On the north side, a Bishop, a man with a pan flute and one with a falcon can be recognized. |
