Locke's Distillery in Kilbeggan obtained the licence to
produce Whiskey in 1757. After closing down in 1954, the site was
intended to house an industrial museum. But in 1987, Cooley Distillery
took over the company and is now producing Whiskey in a traditional way during
which the whiskey matures in wooden barrels.
There's a very informative self-guided tour round the restored distillery which allows you to learn more about the process of producing Pot-Still-Whiskey. |
