Located approximately 10 km north-west of Drogheda, this monastery was founded
by a not very famous saint named St. Buithe around the year 500.
The monastery only existed until the early 12th century.
Nowadays, Monasterboice is famous for its High Crosses. The tower, which you can see on the picture below, suffered badly from a fire in 1097 which also destroyed the monastery's library. |
