30th Jan. 2000

Hi.

Welcome to the brand new  www.gordys.co.uk. Thanks for stopping by. Before we go any further, here are a few tips on how to get the most out of this site. The site uses  javascript and frames and is best viewed with version 4or better of  internet explorer or netscape navigator . As these are available free of charge, you should have them loaded already. I designed the site to work at a resolution of 800 x 600. It also looks ok at 1024 x 768.  The pages on sailing and travel are graphically intensive so if you run anything less than a 56kbps modem please be patient when down loading them.

What I have uploaded to date is the bare bones of the site. I am still tweaking and tuning some of the pages, and the photo archives section is nowhere near it's final format as yet. There is also a lot of work to be done in the Mozambique section, but I am hoping to have that completed early in the New Year. As for the rest of the site, the schedule I am working to is as follows.

  • Mid February 2000.
Around 30 new recipes go up to "Gordys Galley".
  • Mid March    2000.
The Music Project page should be ready. With some home brewed MP3 files for  your listening "pleasure."

In the mean time, have a look around. If you come across anything that does not work or is chronically mis-spelled (more than possible) e mail me via one of the links provided.

Finally, Those of you who know this site will have noticed a few changes have taken place and that this page in particular has taken on a less personal appearance. This is due to the fact that the site has been submitted to a local IT training organisation for "Scrutineering" as part of my application for a training grant. If all goes well, we will be back to normal by May.
Cheers.
Gordon.

Gordon & Norma.
Both born in the UK , Gordon in London. Norma in Manchester. Gordon wound up in South Africa in 1964 due to his family deciding to emigrate from this "green and pleasant land". From the late sixties through to 1980 he pursued a career in music, travelling the length and breadth of South Africa, Namibia and Swaziland. Looking back on those days, one realises how very hard up the population must have been for entertainment!

Norma arrived in South Africa in 1974 as a new bride in a new country. She also travelled extensively. Her ex husbands fascination with steam trains taking them to some of the most remote and scenic parts of the country.

They met as Gordon's musical exploits and Norma's marriage came to an end. However the travelling continued, with numerous camping expeditions into the African Bush. They led a pretty normal kind of life until Gordon's long standing ambition to "mess about in boats", once again, reared it's ugly head. A six week cruise aboard a friends 33 ft catamaran quickly led to the purchase of "APILLON" a 23 ft Mistral class keelboat. Apillon was cruised and raced extensively until the decision was made to return to the U.K. in 1994.

The most difficult part of building this site was trying to decide  what to put in it! After much deliberation we decided to cover all of our interests as an on going project. Hence you will find pages covering subjects ranging from cooking curry through to motor racing, travel and sailing.

We have enjoyed putting this lot together and hope that you find something here to interest you.

Cheers.
