Liverpool April 11 - 14

Mark left us in London to return home to Sydney, which left Graeme, Grant and I to travel on to our next-to-last destination, Liverpool.

We travelled form London to Liverpool by train, which was a nice relaxed way to travel after flying between most of our other destinations.

With all the ABBA business out of the way, it was time to start the serious Beatles tour.

In Liverpool we visited Mathew Street, site of  the famous Cavern, as well as doing the "Magical Mystery Tour" past the major Beatles related sites, including childhood homes as well as Penny Lane and Strawberry Field. We took the famous "Ferry 'cross the Mersey"

It was "very strange" to be travelling down Penny Lane, and "nothing was real" when we got to Strawberry Field. But it was amazing to see all the sights in Liverpool that I'd read about in so many Beatles books for so many years.

Generally, Liverpool is a fairly gloomy city, and it didn't help that we had the worst weather of the trip there, with rain, hail and even a bit of snow! And at night once the shops shut it's very quiet in the centre of the city. Still, it was interesting to finally visit.
